A Season of Sacrifice and Help For Fellow YT Junkies

Hey Reader,

Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
We never know what to say in these intros,
But we wrote this newsletter for you. 😜

💲 Money Minute

Most of you probably know we're in the middle of moving. We're currently living in our camper while waiting for our place in Knoxville to sell.

We're also driving two very old vehicles - a 2001 Ford truck and a 2006 Saturn Vue. And it feels like we're navigating a car issue at least once a week.

It's tempting to get rid of these inconveniences by stretching our finances to buy a new place before our old one sells and utilizing car loans to replace our "needy" vehicles.

And those decisions could lead to a "good" situation right now. But they'd certainly hinder the "great" things we're working towards in our life vision. (Check out our podcast episode on trading good for great here.)

So this is our opportunity to sit in the discomfort, to deal with the inconveniences, to sacrifice the good to get the great. And to ask God to help us rest in Him, instead of the false security of stuff and circumstances.

If you find yourself in a similar season, we hope it encourages you and bolsters your resolve to know you're not alone. ❤️

⚓︎ Craft Your Money Story

It's funny how crafting your money story leads to considering your stewardship of other resources, like time.

I (Hanna) am pretty ruthless about minimizing time spent on my phone and social media, but YouTube has continued to be my kryptonite. 😬

Don't get me wrong, I learn a lot from YT. But I'm guilty of getting lost in the algorithm vortex more often than I'd like to admit.

Thankfully, one of my favorite YouTubers 🙃, Reagan Rose, shared a plug-in that minimizes distractions on the platform.

Now I can look up a specific topic or video without going down a million different rabbit holes. It's also really easy to turn on and off, so I can intentionally choose when I want/ have time to go on an algorithm-led adventure.

If you're interested, these are the Unhook settings I toggle on:

  • Hide Home Feed
  • Hide End Screen Feed
  • Hide End Screen Cards
  • Hide Shorts
  • Disable Autoplay

I hope this helps some of my fellow YT junkies out there!

Until next week,

Nick + Hanna

Hey Reader, Nick and I are trying something new on the YouTube channel... a TikTok reaction video. We hope it'll make talking about money feel less intimidating — and maybe even a little fun. You can check it out here: ⚓︎ Craft Your Money Story - From Hanna Have you ever wondered why some people seem remarkably patient while pursuing big goals? I was asking myself that question last week, and a quote I've heard dozens of times from Hormozi finally clicked: Patience is figuring out what you're...

Hey Reader, Hanna here — Nick’s wife, if we haven’t met yet. 🙂 We’re taking a short break from YouTube to create some new trainings for Guild (our membership for A100 grads). But instead of going quiet, I thought it’d be fun to share a little behind-the-scenes of what we’ve been up to lately... 🏡 BTS of Our Money Story Since 2020, Nick and I have worked on: A 1960s rancher A 1920s mixed-use building And now, a 1940s cottage They all needed some love. And each one stretched us (and our budget)...

Hey Reader, Thanks for sharing your time with us. We hope this offers a fresh perspective as you think about your budget. ⚓︎ Craft Your Money Story - From Hanna This week on YouTube, Nick and I are talking about how we budget together. Whenever this topic comes up, we usually get a comment like: “Sounds great... but we could never talk about money like that.” That’s what I call the Pit of Despair. It’s where you end up when you compare your current reality to someone else’s outcome — without...
