Hey Reader, Happy Friday! We hope this email gives you some fun things to think about as you enjoy the weekend. 📝 What's NewCredit cards in YNAB are TOUGH! So we just published an updated guide to clear up any confusion you may have had on the topic. You can check it out here: 💲 Money MinuteNick here - I want to share with you one of my favorite tips for cutting back on subscriptions: Cancel every single subscription you have... Seriously. Cancel every one of them - whether monthly or yearly - set it so that they do not auto-renew. Then, whenever you get an email that one of your subscriptions is about to expire, you can re-evaluate whether paying for that service is still worth it to you. And if one expires and you end up wishing you still had it... you can always sign back up! The idea is to force yourself to "clean house" regularly by setting your subscriptions to a default cancel, rather than a default renew. Now you have to actively make the choice to sign back up, rather than passively getting charged again. I think you'll be surprised by just how many subscriptions you won't miss. ⚓︎ Craft Your Money StoryAs an antique-loving lady from a long line of A.L.L.s, I've spent many hours browsing antique stores. My meemaw and I walk through the store arm in arm, picking up items here and there to examine more closely. And repeatedly, exchanges like this unfold:
Meemaw: How much is that basket?
Me: The tag says $65.
Meemaw: 🙀 Well, they can keep it for that!* Then I slink back the next day to buy the $65 basket of my dreams. 😂 I love my meemaw dearly, but our values are different. And they should be! Because our lives are completely different. And therefore, our spending should be different. So what does antique shopping with Meemaw have to do with your budget? Well, a huge part of crafting your money story is knowing your values, and then spending in alignment with those values. And if you're spending in alignment with your values, you'll probably have some experiences similar to my shopping with Meemaw story. Last week, Nick asked a client a simple question that captured this idea perfectly: Do you have at least one category in your budget that would make most of your friends/ family gasp if they knew how much you spend on it? If not, you may need to spend some time thinking about your values. If you already know your values, then consider redirecting** money to particular categories that reflect your values more accurately. Here are a few categories where Nick and I spend big that would be gasp-inducing for most of the people around us:
But when Nick and I look at our spending in these categories, we always think, "100% worth it!" And we're ok if other people disagree. **Vehicles, spontaneous fun spending, clothing updates - these are a few categories we minimize so that we have more money to spend on things we truly value. |

The hallmark phrase I hear clients use before shooting themselves in the foot is, "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." These words make my ears perk up.
